FAQs

What is Dermatology?

Dermatology is a specialized field of medicine, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of diseases/conditions of the skin, hair, nails, mouth, and genital surfaces.

How are Dermatologists different from other doctors?

Dermatologists are doctors that have received a four (4) year medical degree and at least one additional year of general medical training (formerly termed internship) and three years of skin specialization.

How often should I see a dermatologists?

Yearly.

How can our Dermatologists help you?

Dermatologists efficiently make medical diagnoses, which can be related to the skin only or may be a sign of other organ system involvement. Dermatologists treat skin cancers and malignant melanomas in the office setting. Dermatologists emphasize prevention and education to their patients as well as instruction on self-examination of the skin. Dermatologists of Southwest Ohio are on the cutting edge of various cosmetic procedures and products that will help you look and feel your best.

How much does an office visit cost?

The range for an office visit $30 – $235 with the average of $63.00 for an established patient and $113.00 for a new patient. These fees are estimates and are subject to change. Additionally, these fees do not include any additional procedure that may be done at the time of the appointment or at subsequent appointments. Insurance will cover the majority of these costs as long as the services are a medical necessity (not cosmetic). DSWO does not charge for missed appointments.

Do you accept new patients?

Yes, DSWO makes every effort to see new patients within a two week period of time. Dermatological emergencies will be seen immediately.

What are your hours?

Appointments can be scheduled from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Saturday morning appointments are also available on a more limited basis.

Which insurances do you accept?

DSWO accepts practically all insurance with the exception of Medicaid. Some insurance plans require referrals to see our physicians. Please check with your insurance company to be certain that our physicians are providers with your insurance plan and if a referral from your primary care doctor is required.

Is the Doctor running on time?

The physicians at DSWO make every effort to maintain appointment times within a twenty (20) minute window. If there is a longer delay, patients are welcome to reschedule their appointment. Everyone’s time is important.

Why do I constantly need to complete insurance forms?

Updated health information is important to the delivery of optimal health care and insurers make this a requirement. DSWO ask that our patients update their forms yearly, but if there has been no change in health/dermatological status, simply sign and date the form indicating no change.

Are all these people in front of me?

In our four office facilities, it is not uncommon for two or three dermatologists to be seeing patients at one time. This creates a busy waiting room. Our goal is that our patients do not wait longer than 20 minutes.

How do I get prescriptions refilled?

For refills contact the office at which you were seen.
