Sagging Skin

Sagging skin can result due to the deterioration and reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin due to aging, as well as weight loss.

What is it?

Skin sagging may occur when the skin loses its flexibility due to a reduction in collagen and elastin, two crucial proteins in our bodies. Collagen, composed of tightly arranged fibers, aids in maintaining the structural integrity and firmness of our skin. Elastin grants our skin its pliability, ensuring it remains soft and flexible. As we advance in age, our bodies gradually decrease the production of these two proteins, leading to skin sagging. This primarily affects the eyelids, face, jawline, neck, upper arms, and abdomen.

Additional weight and pregnancy can also lead to skin sagging. While it's natural for skin to sag as we age, the experienced providers at Dermatologists of Southwest Ohio have various treatment options that can help.

If you are experiencing unwanted sagging skin, schedule an appointment at one of our offices located in in Batavia, Beavercreek, Bridgetown, Cincinnati, Dayton, Dent, Greenville, Hillsboro, Kettering, Mason, Montgomery, Oxford, Troy, West Chester and Wilmington, Ohio, to understand what treatment options are available.
